PREMIERE: London – House of Vans

We premiered our second film You Can Make History at the House of Vans at London Waterloo. The screening and workshop brought academics, heritage organisations, urban planners, and policymakers with skaters, campaigners and young people who feel themselves to be on the periphery of public debate about the use of public space. We used the film to continue the conversation about why some everyday activities/places are so valuable that they should be retained for future generations and how this value can be communicated to people/organisations who may not immediately recognise these feelings. The participation of friends and colleagues from beyond the Southbank (from Gateshead, Manchester, Liverpool, Norwich and Lewes) enabled us to open up the debate and think more widely about the ways in which grassroots movements and formal institutions can care for the histories and spaces they both value.
